YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK

It has finally been revealed how much in taxpayer dollars was spent by the EDTC to sue me for slander.

$35,000.

Just savour that for a moment. Your tax money was used to bring a suit against a blogger.  This course of action was voted for by the board of the EDTC with Mayor Doug Martin and former Councillor Sandy Annunziata voting to spend taxpayer dollars to sue me for slander.

Nothing more to say about that. I did want to address the latest coming from the dark side/Jarvis Street Brigade.  Apparently I'm being accused of posting anonymous comments on my own blog. The "proof" of this was in a response to a remark that I am accused of never having posted. Except that I did post the nonsense and now I know who sent it in. No surprise there.  It's fairly easy to figure out the origin of many postings.  The trolls all have "tells" in their grammar, phraseology and spelling.

And the attacks on my friend have continued.  She has even been accused of being a member of the FOCB which she has never been. Please leave her alone, you fools. She has a lot more on her plate than to be upset by your lies and baseless accusations.

Normally, I would laugh at the ravings of the trolls, but the attacks on my friend are outrageous.  As outrageous as wasting taxpayer money on a frivolous lawsuit.

There is no joy in Doodyville as the Mighty Moneyballs has struck out.

All's quiet now; the trolls have taken to their places under the Bridge and my dear friend may be able to find some Peace from the onslaught of senseless accusations.

So, if one were to remember back when this whole lawsuit started, I said that it would cost the taxpayers large. For which I was roundly criticized. Apparently the trolls have no idea just how expensive it is to mount a lawsuit, regardless of the outcome. Of course, the lawsuit was a tactic used to shut me up and make an example of me. And here I am, still posting.

So far, I'm batting a thousand on my predictions. The Gang from Doodyville? Not so much.

Keep at it trolls. We do enjoy the silence when your words come back to bite you in the ass.

The next question is? How much more in legal expenses will the EDTC spend to continue with this lawsuit? & where will the money come from?

As far as I know, the lawsuit has concluded.

The mistake I made was in posting certain comments that, while they were truthful, having come from "inside sources," they were not verified. This was because the people were afraid to reveal their names. Many of the comments came through an intermediary in order to protect their identity.

I regret that the postings were published. It certainly was not my intent that the taxpayers would be on the hook for a lawsuit and I underestimated the anger that the postings produced.

I do apologize to the taxpayers for their loss, however, the whole sorry debacle proves my point exactly.

well of course you find the lawsuit to be 'frivolous' as it is launched against you!
Who do you think you are kidding???
I for one think you should have been sued NUMEROUS times but the average citizen could not be bothered paying a lawyer to do so...and besides...you are nothing but a welfare case here in OUR beloved country so what is there to gain from you????

Sharon, can you refresh my memory about Sandy Annunziata voting for the condo at Bay Beach and then managing some how to stop a high-rise in his own ward at the Dry Docks? What happened there, it didn't get to council, did it? There was just some little article in a paper and it was done?

So you think lawsuit against me that cost the taxpayers $35,000. was worth it? And what did it accomplish? It was the very definition of a frivolous lawsuit.

As to being a "welfare case?" Guess everyone who falls on hard times and is forced to accept welfare is a "welfare case" then? Be careful about that nasty terminology. You might be insulting a good friend or a relative. Because of the attitude you displayed, many people, who have had to rely on public assistance are ashamed to admit it. In the past, I also took a chance and opened businesses in the area. When the businesses closed, I had no choice but to apply for welfare. That also happened when I was laid off from a job before the unemployment kicked in. I consider myself fortunate that I was able to get back on my feet and find a job with the help of the wonderful people at the Job Gym. Never once was I disrespected or treated like a "welfare case." There was only compassion and the willingness to help me find work in this difficult economy. I suggest that anyone looking for work go to the Job Gym and join the Jobfinders Club.

BTW, I am currently retired after having worked at several jobs in both the US and Canada and am receiving benefits that I contributed to for over fifty years.

So, what have you done, except to stalk my blog and write nonsense?

Frivolous lawsuits are thrown out of court. They do not result in a judgement. So how can this lawsuit define "Frivolous Lawsuit?" Did you predict that this would actually happen when you were slandering the EDTC?

I published the above with edits so that I could answer it. I get tired of the usual insults with almost every post. Hey, trolls. If you want me to post your thoughts, can the personal attacks.

The lawsuit against me was frivolous because there was no reason to proceed. Perhaps, if I had shown up in court, the case would have been thrown out. Google, which was also named, did not and the ruling was against them as well.

The question that taxpayers should be asking is: why? Why did the board of the EDTC, which included Sandy Annunziata and Doug Martin vote to proceed with a lawsuit that would cost a lot of money with no real hope of a payoff from a senior citizen on a fixed income? Why was a law firm from Toronto chosen and why was the court date set in Toronto? Are there no local lawyers who can handle this type of lawsuit?
Lastly, does anyone think this is a good use of taxpayer money? That $35,000. could have helped a struggling business to stay afloat; or paid a salary for someone; or been donated to the food bank. Instead it went to a Toronto law firm.

Completely Off Topic:

AS some of you might know, I'm an avid reader and movie buff. So, I'm looking forward to tonight's Golden Globes as they are usually an indicator of the Academy Awards.
Today I watched a movie that will be nominated for a number of awards because of an outstanding performance by Tilda Swinton. It is called We Need to Talk About Kevin. This movie is billed as a "psychological thriller"and it was. Wow. I have to watch it again to relish the perfection of the acting and the script.

Other great movies I have seen:

Drive
The Help
Beginnings
Tree of Life
Moneyball
Ides of March

(I loved them all. More to come.)

I will once again be offering my take on the Oscars. Such fun.
