ICE CAVES KNOCKED DOWN

UPDATE:

Due to unsafe conditions and warmer weather, Fort Erie Fire Chief ordered the demolition of the Crystal Beach Ice Caves. Only one piece of heavy equipment was needed to knock down the caves Wednesday afternoon.

A BIG THANKS to Mother Nature, the media, visitors and locals for making Crystal Beach a place to visit in the winter.

We made the Buffalo News! Great pictures and video with the article

From Global News: http://globalnews.ca/news/1145937/winter-weather-carves-out-ice-shoves-near-lake-erie/

The parking lot at the Waterfront Park has been full the past week or so as hundreds of people visit the Ice Caves along the frozen shoreline of Lake Erie in Crystal Beach. Can't see much from this picture but it is quite a sight. Old-timers do recall a smaller version in the late 1960s at Bay Beach, but this assortment of caves is very rare.  It is also rare that the Great Lakes are almost completely ice covered.

Families and photographers are enjoying the caves and local businesses are cashing in on the influx of visitors to Crystal Beach. Phil Smith of South Coast Restaurant offers free hot chocolate to anyone with a picture of themselves at the caves. Even the national press has reported on the ice caves.

So, for those who are winter-weary, a visit to the ice caves may restore your appreciation of our winter beauty.

Editor's Note: Temporarily took down other article. This weekend, it's all about Crystal Beach!

    1. I don't know who you are, but at least you put a real-sounding name to your remark. Trying to be funny? Well, you're not. Take a break away from your computer and visit the ice caves. May never see such a phenomenon again and it's here - right in Crystal Beach. Celebrate the fact that we have something to break up the monotony of winter. Don't make such a natural wonder into an opportunity to insult someone. Sun is shining. It's a beautiful day in the neighbourhood!

  3. To Gerry Seebach.....

I hope Mr. Lubberts has briefly entertained such an idea. At least that is forward thinking and trying to promote his constituency, as far fetched as it is. At least he is not spending his days and our tax $$ thinking up ways to line his own pockets or BS the hard working people of this town that give up a good portion of their pay in order that certain lowlife officials can hire lawyers to muzzle the democratic process for their own selfish purposes etc etc etc. Ad nauseam.

SUPPORT THE FOUR, support democracy and end local graft, greed and stupidity as represented by the likes of Gerry.

    1. Tim Whitfield has a lot on his plate right now. He signed on to a vexatious lawsuit against four sitting councillors, one of whom badly beat him in the 2010 election; his house burned down and there is still no determination of the cause; his wife left him and his business closed. No decent person wishes bad luck on anyone, but I have to think that Karma has paid a call on Mr. Whitfield.

    2. Mr. Whitfield certainly has a lot on his plate, but he has a big appetite. He has the strength and the integrity to overcome the adversaries that have confronted him, including yourself.

You Madam Editor, would fold under situations similar to his. He will confront each issue, challenge each issue and embrace each issue, and will come out Superior than ANY of YOUR elected officials.

And THAT, Madam Editor, you can take to the bank. You know little of what you speak and less of what you criticize.

Remember this Madam Editor, YOUR attitude, YOUR influence, YOUR CONSPIRACY, along with Marcia Carlyn, has been recorded and passed through multiples of dozens of influential people. One wrong move ...... one motivation ...... and the bomb drops.

      Choose your words ........... carefully.

  4. And The Times still features martin and Thibert promoting doom for Fort Erie. Aren't they the two who should be doing the OPPOSITE?

Yeah, the Town Council has to work together to better our community. What does our mayor do? he tries to sue his own Councillors and Thibert insists that for the Town to promote jobs that Council must be united. Hypocrites!

    1. You'd think that with Thibert's love of publicity for himself, he'd be down there for a photo op. Should be an unexpected boon to tourism. I just commented about it on Huff-Po as the website had a similar story about ice caves on Lake Michigan. Big difference it that our ice caves are easily accessible. Not so on Lake Michigan. I hope that the ice caves draw international attention to Crystal Beach.

    1. Perhaps Bonito didn't get the desired effect from his newspaper letters. He certainly does not fit the desired description of a good service club member. How can anyone trust that, if they ask for help, or receive help from the service club , that information is not spread all over the internet if Bonito feels they are undeserving? Like what happened to me when a former service club member and ninja follower revealed confidential information about me? Someone wrote in to this blog and mentioned that I volunteered for the Salvation Army. That was true - until I was accused of stealing from the kettles. Store owners in Ridgeway have been advised that I am a thief and it was posted on the ninja site that I was "under police investigation." None of these things are true but that's what these people do with their spare time. Of course, Greg Bonito called the police on me four times that I know of complaining about things I wrote in my blog. He lost his job because of his rants in the workplace against the four councillors and Americans. His behaviour at council meetings is reprehensible, so much so that good, decent citizens are afraid to attend meetings. And this guy has the nerve to brag about being in a service club. The Kinsmen Club is a fine organization. They will regret allowing him to become a member.

  6. Perhaps it is time for you to call the police on Mr Bonito, Madam Editor.

Sounds like you may have a case for harassment, stalking and mischief. With a new chief at the NRP and the desire to not end up in the papers again like the Great FE Cheese and Smuggling Scandal which they managed to subdue somewhat, you may find the NRP a little more co-operative. They also do not want any more limelight than necessary with one of their own fine outstanding former officers being released from a US prison and deported back to Canada soon. I could be wrong but there seems to be a new wind blowing within our local constabulary in an effort to clean up their act.

At the very least they would have a reported complaint and the next time Mr Bonito steps out of line, it may not go so well for him.

  8. The police are well aware of Bonito's campaign against me. I have chosen not to pursue it legally, but that could change. As for the Kinsmen, they may not be totally aware of Bonito's extra-curricular activities. Perhaps, as one of Greg's former employers found out, there is little tolerance for anti-Americanism amongst retail outlets. Even Jim Thibert admitted on record that over 80% of revenue to Fort Erie came from the US visitors and investors. Perhaps the Kinsmen should be made aware of Bonito's attitude.

  11. Irks me... As a Lions member as you previously alluded to i would choose your words very carefully when you start making acqusations of a club who works for the same common goal as yourself. remember to look in the mirror as you said earlier as well as your comments are just as vindictive and detremental

  12. Bonito et al suggested that I had something to do with the fire because I reported it first. A neighbour of Whitfield called a mutual friend who called me. That prompted the ninjas to decide that I must have had something to do with it. (Actually, the first thing I did upon hearing of the fire was to contact the local news media.) It was hours later that I went to see the burned out shell of his home.

I wish I could feel sorry for these people, but I can't. They are very obsessed with me because I write a blog. The best thing they can do is ignore me.

  13. You are one sick human being...If you don't like what is going on then get out of the country....You talk about poor me blah blah..know your facts first off and second off how dare you talk about what real volenteers are...U have a lot of nerve bashing others and then feeling sorry for yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  14. You are obviously a terrible human being Madam Editor. You have done your utmost to save our last and best beach for generations to come and then you had the gall to expose local corruption costing the taxpayer very large $$$, all the while being subject to abuse from the evil that lurks here......How dare you!!

Keep up the good work and thank you for all your efforts. Obviously you are not alone as the good people of this town have voted in a majority of council that opposes the old way things have run here for far too long and greatly to our collective detriments.

SUPPORT THE FOUR end local stupidity.

    1. I have debated whether to leave the remarks up - especially the ones against me. However, a light needs to be shone on this because it is obvious that I am not the only one being harassed by these folks. I know that the four councillors have suffered from the lies spread by the ninjas. Private citizens as well. What the ninjas don't seem to realize is that, the more they pour it on, the more determined I am to keep going. Too bad that a story about something good happening in the area got corrupted with attention to these lowlifes.

  15. Sharon, I realize you are American and can't stop yourself from trying to control everything after all it's the American way but understand this....your voice means virtually nothing to anyone. You have been sued for your inability to shut your pie hole. Fact , you can leave and not one person would shed a tear. At what point did you think that being an American you should insert yourself in Canadian politics? We as Canadians pride ourselves in staying separate from YOUR countries ideals and views. In the future can you please refrain from speaking....thanks.

    1. As a Canadian, you have the right to your opinion and you also have the right to not visit my blog. You might want to read all of what I have said before you judge me. I would seem that you have an opinion of me based on what you read about me elsewhere. I do not particularly care if you don't like me or what I say, but, as a resident and taxpayer, I have a right to express my opinions.I suggest that you do some research before you jump to a conclusion.

At least you identified yourself and did say "thanks." I appreciate that.

  16. How interesting that when challenged or criticized , the Butlers, Bonito's & their fan club want you to go back to the states, a very juvenile approach. But then they have never matured passed the grade school bully stage. They do not like the fact that Americans who own properties here & who pay high taxes may have an interest in how the Town of Fort Erie is run. Again, ignorance on their part. Madam Editor you are a Canadian resident & are certainly entitled to your opinions. The east Fort Erie goon squad needs to be closely monitored especially since one of their own is running for Council. The voting taxpayers need to be educated on the overall stupidity of this group.

  17. They are a one trick pony parade. A gift from Mother Nature brings an estimated 50 thousand people into the area and all they can do is publish trash. I am very glad that the businesses in the area got some attention in the middle of winter. Not one word from the mayor or anyone else about this except the fire chief. When has a mid-winter event ever drawn so many visitors? We should be celebrating this.
