ELECTION?

Word coming down from Queen's Park that an election may be called as soon as tomorrow, May 1. (Oops! Election will be called; NDP does not support Liberal Budget. Stay tuned.)

What do you think this will mean for Fort Erie if anything?

BREAKING NEWS:

Finally, embattled Toronto mayor Rob Ford will be going to rehab for "substance abuse."  Story HERE. If he comes through this issue, he should have no trouble getting re-elected. Everyone loves a tale of redemption.

Correction: On further examination of the claims made from the latest round of audios/videos, it appears that Rob Ford is finished. Put a fork in him; he's done. If he does survive rehab, his alleged remarks about his wife and a mayoral challenger will finish him. INHO, there is no way he can overcome this in just a few months.

Update:  Ford took a 30 Day leave. If he thinks he can overcome his demons in a month, he is even more delusional than I thought. He is such a fame whore that he'll probably make a TV series out of his rehab. If there are no consequences from his addiction, instead he gains more fame and attention, he will never recover. He will die or cause the deaths of others. Just observe the pattern in other addicts.

For the good of the people of Toronto and Canada as well, Ford should resign and go quietly off to do the hard work of healing his life and his family.  But, I don't think he will. He is being enabled by his "Ford Nation" supporters.

    1. Guess you were right about the day but wrong about an election being called. It will certainly be an interesting election.

    too bad for the town....

with those 2 grossly incompetents leading our local politics and economics flaunting banners in the Liberals face, and now playing the "It"s Not My Fault Game"(insert big childlike pout here), all our troubles are obviously those big bad Liberals now (last week it was The FOUR!!).....
we desperately need a non liberal party in power to get any concessions whatsoever from Queens Park.

Well done dougie and jimmie, I doubt you 2 could lead a successful 1 man charge to a 2 hole outhouse.

  4. When will Dougie and Jimmie stop whining about the race track? All those Jobs that they talk about while they ignore or put down other opportunities. What new jobs have come into the area in the past four years? Eurocopter (Airbus) brought in their own expansion, otherwise, little has been added to the local job market. Who is responsible for that? Not the council. It is up to the EDTC working on all levels of government and the private sector to encourage job growth. Our EDTC seems to be focussed on one thing - promotong Jim Thibert and his "other job" at the race track.

  5. IWe are stuck with two race days a week consisting of eight hours of actual race time at an expense to taxpayers of over 6 million dollars .So be it but at the very least could the brilliant minds at the EDTC not come up with some other revenue generating ideas to use this rented venue. There must be some possibilities for entertainment to liven up the community,,,,dog shows, horse shows, band competitions, expanded farmers markets, involve the native community, craft shows, sports, wood carving by saws that has been such a success in Welland, ,competitions of any kind..volleyball, badminton, ping pong {sic}.vocals, dance, bands, wine or beer brewing competition, fire, police or EMS challenges, floral or art shows, dining experiences.. Put your heads together and make some suggestions here. It might stimulate some thoughts at the track to generate some needed revenue and pay the Town back its $500,000. Its a shame that such a venue sits relatively vacant. Whats your idea?.

    1. All of the above. Remember that the Year of the Horse Festival has been canceled. Why? How can they expect to bring people back when there are only two racing days a week, one on Sunday when there is no transit service? A Flea Market besides the Framer's Market on Saturdays. And some complain about our tax dollars going toward the lighthouse restoration that has limited trolley runs. What about a race track that is essentially open only two days a week for live racing?

cokie for head of the live racing consortium.!!

You just came up with more ideas than our current well paid idiot has done in over a decade.

Thats about 600k a year for 10 plus years folks and what do get? a really poor annual or semi annual grand stand performance in council by a clown and the use of our hard earned tax $$ to sue a blogger.

Millions down the crapper for completely nothing.

      Only in FE.

  6. I'm still hoping that Thibert's use of taxpayer dollars to sue me (around $20,000) will come back to bite him in the keister.

  7. and remember the EDTC had to outsource to determine where tourism signage should be placed and then to pay thousands more to determine the best materials for the signs.
didn't Shular defend the total cost of something around one hundred thousand dollars with the explanation that there were several different shades of purple in determining the correct colour selection..

    1. Shular felt it was necessary to go through the gyrations with the where-for-all to necessitate the deliberactions so as not to offend the apples and oranges.(Him being a proud lifetime fill-in-the-blank and all.)

  8. Why not rent out the top half of the parking lot and have a midway and carnival there for the summer. It might bring in some shekels.!!!

  9. does anyone remember when they moved loch sloy and friendship festival there and all the pushback the residents gave to those organizations? It would certainly save FF a heck of a lot of dough they have to pay for the use of the parks land, cops, grass repair, etc, and give them more to put towards entertainment and with the track involved that is set up already for a great concert venue. Or, at least it could be very easily. And the loss of the OLG sponsorship (big stage and big entertainment name) could be sponsored by the Track. Well, maybe now, if such a thing were to happen people would be more understanding. I wonder. Anyway, just throwing out a few more ideas.

  10. Andrea Horwath said today that she will not support the Liberals and doesn't believe their promises. So, we are heading to a quick election.

I suppose the municipal affairs will take a backseat until later in June. I think that is just as well, I am in favour of delaying the hateful campaign that the old boy's no doubt are planning. Lots of time for bullying left.

    1. Just heard that Wynne will make an announcement at 2:00 p.m. today. Looks like she may request an election.

I hope you're right about the local yahoos and their smear campaign.

Please everyone, educate yourselves about the issues and vote - please vote.

As an aside, voting was a very important event in our family. It was a special day and , when I was finally old enough to vote (21 in those days,) it was a cause for celebration. I can't for the life of me, understand how many people everywhere do not take this right very seriously. They complain and complain, but they can't take the time to cast a ballot.
