WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S: THE END

Kind of fitting that the last thing you see here that is recognizable is the sign for "Weekend at Bernie's" the last incarnation/name for the Bay Beach Snack Bar. This picture was taken earlier this morning as the victim of Engineered Blight was razed.

It is indeed fitting that this image has the sign in place when you consider that the snack bar's namesake, Bernie Polino is awaiting trial on the serious charge of cheese smuggling along with his "business partner" Scott Heron of the NRP.  He wrestled the contract away from long-term snack bar operator Charlie of Charlie Boy's with the help of then councillor Martha Lockwood who later went on to install her then girlfriend in the building under Bernie's license to operate a tee shirt shop. Nice little conflict of interest there.

Now, when are they going to get rid of the Molinaro Sales Trailer?  I'm sure some want to wait until after the October elections as they're hoping for a new council which will OK the high rise on our public beachfront land.

They just don't get it, do they?

  1. Let's hope that this is the beginning of a public beachfront that future generations in our community can be proud of.

Let's hope that the next mayor has the vision to protect Bay Beach.

  2. Tear out the cement pad and foundation as well. That sage from the dark side, Leslie North went to great lengths at a recent council meeting to have it remain in place. As I doubt very much she has personal knowledge of such things and the whole meeting was pre-planned with her oh so good buddy dirty doug, one has to wonder what her slimey agenda was. Obvious if you ask me.

While were at it, CHANGE THE ZONING BACK TO WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT, not what your bank account wants there dougie and remove your benefactor's trailer. You dirt bag.

  3. Can someone tell us how old was that building ,and if they will put some kind of snack truck to service visitors, also are they going after grants to replace the old snack bar I don't hear much discussion, going on about the plans for summer time, this is supposed to be one very hot summer.!!!

  4. Last summer there was a refreshment van on the beach. Probably will return. Grants will be applied for but the zoning has to change first. It would have to be zoned recreational parkland before they can get any grants. Friends of Crystal Beach are already looking into grants.

  5. The building goes back about one hundred years, I would guess. Pictures taken when the dance hall was going show people dressed in old time swim suits. A local historian would know for sure.

  6. No doubt Sharon, the picture that you included in this post provides you with a false victorty.

To be perfectly honest, when you opened your faux business, it seemed to be your primary goal to attack the competition. That is not what a reputable business does.

When you opened your business along with that sleazeball, you proclaimed that you couldn't believe that anybody had never thought of your business plan before. Yo promoted it as a Greek Restaurant but never sold anything other than ice cream and Salens hot dogs. It soon became clear that your business plan was to receive the $30,000 Government grant ( documented ) then put piddles into the business and close it down after the 3 month required period. And your "business plan" reaped you $25,000 and raped Crystal Beach and the Ontario Government $25,000.

RIGHT? Or are you still in your LYING State of Mind ?

    1. Gee, I wish that I had known about that $30,000 grant. Would have been a big help.LOL.

Yes, I did have issues with Bernie. He is the real sleazeball. Glad he's gone and I hope he does some jail time for his alleged crimes, but he probably won't. He ran a dirty, unsafe operation but he was protected by his "friends in the NRP." (His exact words.)

I am proud that we put out good food at the restaurant despite the efforts of a few to ruin our business. And yes, we had Greek food as well as tacos, burgers, poutine and all that other good stuff. We closed early because we could just not afford to keep open and pay exorbitant rent just to rake in money over Labour Day. Like I said: that $30,000. figure you just pulled out of your ass would have been very helpful.

    2. Sleezeball and a liar calling others by the same name there eh "Duncan".

It has been a common tactic since you were first challenged by a growing number of people who are very tired of you. Very un- original and totally expected given your mental and moral capacity.

The spotlight is on you rats and thieves of our tax $$. You got a head start, better start running dirt bag.

BTW, we are very well aware that the beach is still up for grabs by you rats who will screw the whole town for your selfish greedy agenda.

    3. I get people like "Duncan" writing in every time I mention Bernie and his connection to Martha Lockwood. I did hear that an official from town has stated that the sales trailer will be removed shortly.

Yes, we must work hard to make sure that the council stays a majority on the people's side. The fall-out from the vexatious lawsuit against four councillors has yet to be realized; when it does, people will be shocked. If this situation were happening in a big city, it would be all over the national media. This is truly an outrage that some people in this town have tried to subvert the election process. A mayor who won by a mere five votes should thank his lucky stars and try to work with the council that the people elected. Martin has acted like a petulant child for almost four years. It's there on video for anyone to see: temper tantrums; interrupting; allowing his supporters to speak against the four councillors at council; using a bunch of high school level wannabes to spread poison; and orchestrating a lawsuit against four men who were duly elected by large margins.

      Only in Fort Erie, eh?

  7. We are not alone regarding the necessity for requiring a "freedom of information" request to expose what our governments are up to, whether municipal or even federal. The community of Downsview recently discovered a switch from the 1999 designation that declared the surplus army base as Canada's first urban national park to a commercially focused company that is inclined to sell off the lands to condo developers.

Apparently there is suppose to be a government policy not to give away valuable assets.

Another hot topic is that Private Public enterprises don't work.

    Any of this sound familiar?

  8. No decision last night at Council on the proposed purchase of MORE Industrial land. If Council decides on the purchase they better have a darn good reason to add to the 80 Acres of available zoned industrial land...not to mention the vacant industrial building sites and acres they sit on. Can't afford a pool but spend tax money on more land to sit vacant??? Give your heads a shake Council!!

    1. The council is being coerced to assist a buyer for the race track by buying that piece of property. The whole deal screams of corruption. There, I said it. Sue me already. (Again.)

I don't get it either. Why can't the interested buyer purchase both properties and leave the Town out of the deal? Is there a sort of finder's fee in the deal?

    1. Remember the hue and cry when the town spent close to $400K to restore the national historic landmark Point Abino lighthouse? A few said it was a waste of taxpayer money. Now that the town is planning to spend ? To buy a piece of undeveloped property (assessed at $152k) we hear crickets from the other side. Where is the outrage over spending taxpayer money on a "useless" piece of property?

  10. I do know that the last time JT was in the buying mood , They used over $2 million dollars of money from the Province to be used for Tourism and Recreational purposes , and that money was diverted to the owners of the Racetrack, gratis , we the people, saw no benefit in advertising or promoting our Town. at this point in time the place is a giant sinkhole for taxpayers money.with no end in sight.!!!
