  1. Hopefully by the end of next summer Bay Beach will finally have suitable amenities and attractive landscaping.

  2. This calls for a start of summer parade and party. Something along the lines of a newyears party, the newsummer party. Around the end of May when the days are getting longer and the summer fun is just starting. It wasnt a tradition back a few years ago, but who can argue that the spring isnt the best time of the year especially if you live in a fine beach community like CB.

  3. I think that.... "IF IF IF"..... the TOFE gave a free hand to CB, that much like the Kinsmen Pool revival, this community with it's very large spirit would rise to the occasion and do much to beautify Bay Beach for everyone's enjoyment.

Really big.... "IF"..... there though as the insiders/ol boys club couldn't cash in now at the public's expense.

  4. Spent the day in Buffalo yesterday visiting old haunts and was very happy to see how the city I grew up in has come back from near death. From what I am able to discern, the State of New York and the city teamed up to encourage business and to reclaim the waterfront. When I left Buffalo to live permanently in Canada many years ago, Buffalo was very depressing, sliding into blight and decay. It took a while, but Buffalo is becoming a must-see destination and downtown is bustling like I haven't seen in years. Went by the beautifully restored Lafayette Hotel (back in the day, my union used to have meetings there and it was a dump.) I saw cars pulling up to the entrance and people entering the hotel with luggage. A bellman assisted and opened the doors like it was back in the Nineteenth Century. I hear that the rooms are exquisite. Lots of other buildings have been spiffed up and the streets and sidewalks are clean. What a difference!

When I see what was done to the once-derelict waterfront, I know that we can do better for ours here in Fort Erie. Thousands of people spend the day by the waterfront, some bring their own lawn chairs and the parking is free. I doubt if the city administration is worried about return on the investment as much as FE's is. No high rises blocking the view of the water either. One can sit under a shade tree and watch the watercraft go by; there are public washrooms; a restaurant and an ice cream place right there. There are many other opportunities and tours available at a price, but a lot is free and open to anyone who comes. (Of course there were many grants and subsidies obtained to help make this all happen.)

Fort Erie needs a dedicated Economic Development and Tourism Department - not separate corporation that can work with the province (that would leave out Jimmie T.) to secure grants for business development and waterfront enhancement. The present GM of the EDTC seems only concerned about the racetrack which he is also the head of the consortium that runs it (how about that one for conflict of interest?)

Until we get rid of the present egomaniac at the helm of the EDTC, Fort Erie will never achieve its destiny.

    1. .......you missed the egomaniac's circle of like minded cronies all bleeding this town dry for their own purposes, political or of course the almighty $$$$.

    2. When you see what can be achieved with cooperation between levels of government, it is annoying that Fort Erie can't get it right. Putting up an insulting banner does not help and that was the work of Mister T.

I know that Byron Brown has been mayor of Buffalo for a while now, but I have no idea who is in charge of economic development, unlike Fort Erie where old bullet head is all over the media like he's some celebrity. He is not qualified to run anything let alone a town's EDTC. He is abrasive, profane embarrassment to this community. (Oops, better be careful. I may get sued against using taxpayer money for stating the obvious.)

    3. Current head of Fort Erie's EDTC has Raked in well over a Million dollars from this Town since he's be hired and what has he done, NOTHING!! since our EDTC was separated they have Raked in over Half a Million Each year, Were is that money going to, could it all be towards People's pay and a bit of rent?

  5. The parade was a resounding success. Lots of cars, floats & even a band. Mayor Redekop was the grand marshal & the under taker. The Friends of Crystal Beach should be congratulated for a job well done, especially Shirley Grace who worked tirelessly to organize this annual parade. Kudos to all!!

  6. End of summer only in name, longest stretch of hot sunny weather all season, and more to come. Dry too. End of school break parade really. Nothing wrong with that either. Hands across the water to Mayor Red for showing a little class and getting involved in a good way. Now the tradition is gaining strength. Well done and hope to see more of the same in the future.

  7. Buffalo is really a festival City these days , spent the Sunday afternoon at the Cheektowaga Park where they are having an Oktober Fest in September, great music , great German food and beer. ending at ten tonight, dancing and singing. down by the Baseball Ball , in and around, a two day chicken wing festival, the bridge was quiet , I see the Town of Pelham recently got a government grant to enhance their bus service , $120 Thousand dollars, why can't our EDTC put in for these grants ,they are available to any town or city. We could have had a grant from the Federal government to fix up that long dormant swimming pool on Central Ave, that program just ended with the Election. Black Creek got some money off the Feds (Action Canada) to put automatic doors and finish off the new peaked roof. JT is too busy for chasing money from the government, he get's his money, from the dumb Fort Erie taxpayers every Springtime.!!!

  8. The EDTC has no interest in anything other than the racetrack & why should he.
This king of Fort Erie can do as he pleases as long as the Town pays his salary without any audits, over seeing etc. & his high profile position with the race Track ensures his position .Fort Erie the corrupt .

  9. Once that property was sold (across the river) things should have changed. The (new) owners should be paying the salarys of the staff that run their new enterprise. They, after all, are millionaires and can easily afford it. Besides what floats in on the tide of off track betting is pretty rich too. Does anyone else know of a foreign owned business that pays wages from taxes collected here? JT has got a sweet thing going but it would seem only fair to either be an employee of the owners or resign and apply himself fully to the EDTC. Not both. Seems weird too that he was able to broker that deal then stay there to work. Conflict? Something smells here and it aint just the horse turds.

  10. Did Rino Mostacci hire Rick Brady?
That may explain the push for high rises in Crystal Beach.
