WHAT'S NEXT?

Well, the Canadian elections are over and the Liberals have been swept into office. Except here in Fort Erie where incumbent Rob Nicholson remained as a lone Conservative MP in the area. Now he thinks that he has what it takes to be the next Conservative Party Leader. Good Luck with that.

The election results may prove to be an indicator of Fort Erie's further decline, unless the Liberals take pity or they take into consideration the tremendous potential that has been wasted in town. Our former mayor-by-five-votes, Doug Martin is a big supporter of the Tories. It was Dougie's brand of politics that brought forth a S.L.A.P.P. lawsuit against four councillors, thus costing them, and ultimately the town insurance a lot of money. Dougie got his way though. He and his followers were able to run three of the four out of office and replace them with flunkies from the Chamber of Commerce. So, the people of Fort Erie, who are already used to getting short shrift, will probably get a big lot of nothing under the new regime. We'll see.

Meanwhile, I'm getting ready to start working for the US Elections coming up next year. At this point, the Republican cast of clowns has become almost fascinating - in a horrific way. I will be commenting on the American elections from time to time, but I'm going to leave Fort Erie to its own devices for a while.

I am just going to take satisfaction in the knowledge that the grand scheme of Doug Martin and his friends has been stopped, but not without a lot of collateral damage. Shame on them. They cared more for their own selfish interests than what was best for the people of Fort Erie. I hope that Karma pays them all back very soon and very decisively.

  1. as usual Madam Editor you're way too close to the truth and reality of local politics. But I have to take exception to your statement that this council of Jimmy's trained monkeys(sorry Donny and Wayne. How you put up with it is deserving of a Nobel prize) will produce nothing. They already have produced double digit tax increases 1 year into power.

Don't turn that dial FE, there's a lot more of this coming your way for the privilege of letting the ol boy financial club run things again for their profit and to hell with the other 99% of the town. Get it here, hot off the press as the Post and Times are too busy coseying up to the rich and shameless here and both were absent for their classes on journalistic integrity.

  2. At least right now I can walk over to Bay Beach and not have to visualize the encroaching Molinaro monolith.
Has that Molinaro lawsuit against four Councillors been withdrawn? Was it just another timely threat tactic to corrupt our democratic election process?

  3. Was Nik from Niagara up as contender for the Conserve leadership? A while back it may have seemed the old dude was being put through his paces as some sort of ready to wear party hat, but from what just happened in may come to some decision with a less stiff, old, smalltown lawyer as a real contender. People chose a young unpolished teacher to be the countrys next leader. Sound familiar?

  4. I am a conservative BUT so far Trudeau has done ok. But if anyone thinks that the provincial witch is going to create new wealth from the Feds is dreaming. This dictatorial she wolf has now decided to allow municipalities to levy a new land transfer tax on home buyers to pay for infrastructure because she hasn't any money. So guess what the working poor will never be able to afford a home because Wynn is so creative in creating new found funding at the expense of every body. But gee lets give millions to the unions & the Ontario Hydro group. BTW did you know that we the Ontario taxpayers are funding a loan to the Ontario Hydro employees so that they can buy the stock in the share offer??? What the F--- are we doing here. The Provincial Liberal MPP's need to take a stand!!

  5. All about the money right? Any land transfir increase will be built into the price of some new pile of bricks some lawncutting fools buy into with the help of low interest rates at the local money lenders. Hey, youre richer than you think, right? So far Trudeau has been at the mike for a week and has little or no relation to the provincial liberals. Wynne has no money? There are billions here for the picking and the TV addicted fools cant wait for the next round of hockey. Alberta is planning to run a multibillion dollar budget deficit over the next few years. The bank of Canada wonks are very proud of their new cash strapped stepchild. Alberta was the home of the last overmadeup prime minister. Does it show?

  6. From my viewpoint , with a Town completely controlled by JT and his ilk that are now firmly in control of our Town Council, having a Conservative outlook would be a political liability with not only the Province,, but now the Federal Government in the hands of the Liberal Party, Doug Martin and Co, just about burned their bridges behind them with the giant bill boards castigating the closure of the Slots and berating about the Hospital closures , I have often found that sugar and honey makes government take another look at your point of view , instead we have a hardening of attitudes and now a toxic environment, it might be time to hit the reset button and try diplomacy and listen to one another, so as to turn this situation around.

  7. Thats called "lake effect politics". Hot air blowing across open empty spaces picking up support then taking over whatever system has been established locally. The liberals in Toronto already see this area as a little piece of "little america". See Rob Niks play for the leadership of the federal republicans...er..conservatives. Probly already a done deal in the secret backroom politics of Adolf Harper. Like trained monkeys they know where the low hanging fruit is, and Rob is one overripe banana. He still resents.. represents this area. Look at all the good that has done us so far. Diplomacy is fine and theyre all good "listeners" but does any of it get acted on? Very little if any. Unless theyre working for us in secret. If so its a pretty well kept secret.

    1. Most of the Down Fall in this area was caused by our Local Municipal and Provincial Government, and Not at the Federal Level!

  8. at least the little man in orange that represents us provincially tries his best. Nicholson is too busy polishing his career and has already thrown his electorate under the bus many times but the child like voter here keeps giving him a mandate.

Lean years ahead for the town with this situation. Taxes going up up up and little in return will be coming back. Besides that, we have to feed our increasingly greedy homegrown crop of ol boys and THEIR voice at the horseshoe. Maybe I should join the dark side as the pay is way better but sleeping at night would be difficult with all that guilt of screwing the town for selfish purposes. Works for them. Some(far too many) have made a career out of it.

  9. Interesting to note most of the biggest feeders at the trough have leanings toward the Conservative party. No wonder the town falls behind while certain departments such as the one created to help the town with tourism and/ or economic development receive large paychecks while very little gets done. With high unemployment locally and little hope to see a change in that regard its no wonder the party that is all spend and talk got their heads handed to them. Now if we could just change some of that slacker attitude around here. By the way the feds helped with a large bridge project in Windsor over the river to Detroit. Here? Fort WHO???

  10. looks like anti SLAPP legislation is now law here. Too late for this town that destroyed 4 good men of conscience trying to save us from the ol boy insider financial network and the other pigs at the taxpayer's funded trough. Too bad the Times/Post is part of the problem and are devoid of journalistic integrity.

  11. The latest article about the Conflict of Interest outcome stated that the four had very large fees to combat the lawsuit brought against them. Court costs were capped at $30,000. That was against Whitfield because the case was lost.
The four were taken to court while Councillors. They were awarded reimbursement, that came out of the town's insurance.
The four are still being defamed.

  12. I feel that the four councillors should pool whatever resources they have, get the hottest Lawyers around and sue the Doug Martin inspired vendetta cabal, for not only , loss of money but libel , character assassination.and go for millions in penalty's against these creeps, many own property such as Zavitz, Singh and Beatties.

    1. you can include the Miller's in that list as well. Arrogance and entitlement run very deep with some of their members. Don't forget the Butt and her boss Jimmy Dirt Bag.....The list is long and(not very) distinguished. Most are rich and all of them are full of themselves.

  13. What is some small town nut job like J Culic doing writing an editorial about events in Ottawa? Isnt his bootlicking leanings toward his bosses political loyalties enough to keep him on the payroll? That guy watches way too much TV. What a bigot. We get feminists, hippies, etc...the list goes on. Comic relief we guess for an overly conservative publication that has to give it away for free to keep circulation numbers up. Put that on Jims resume. The fool in the free paper.
